- Welcome & Introductions. Question of the day: What was the best fundraiser you’ve participated in?
- ANNOUNCEMENT: We will not have a general meeting on May 7th. SGH is going to see Greg Mortensen, co-author and subject of the acclaimed book, “Three Cups of Tea.” We will meet outside Esslinger at 6:30pm and walk over to Mac Court together. Get your FREE tickets ahead of time (http://www.tickets.uoregon.edu/3cups). Afterwards, we might go to Prince Pucklers Ice cream to discuss the talk!
- ANNOUNCEMENT: We have modified our website! Check out our reading recommendations under “members section” or on the bottom right hand side of any page. If you have any suggestions for our reading list, bring it up at the next meeting. We’re always looking for Good Reads about public health, social justice and poverty issues.
- ANNOUNCEMENT: We’re continuing our book & movie exchange. If you own a good book/movie and are willing to lend it out to another group member, bring it to our next meeting and present it to the group. This is a great way to get your hands on interesting material for free!
- EDUCATIONAL SEGMENT: Director of Administration, Michelle, presented the key points of an article she wrote concerning donation to charities. The article focuses on “things to know” before you donate. For example, did you know that overhead cost is not a good indicator of the efficiency of an organization? The full article will be available on the uoglobalhealth.org site soon!
- UPCOMING EVENT: The River Walk 2009 is this Saturday May 9th at 10 AM at Alton Baker Park. Email Matt@uoglobalhealth if you want to participate, and he can register you. Meet there a little earlier, or walk there together. We can meet up at the stone sculptures around 9:45 AM. WEAR RED (or your FACE AIDS shirt!) and you can bring money to donate if you feel like it. Come show support and solidarity for those affected by HIV/AIDS.
- BRAINSTORM: We discussed what went well and didn’t at our last fundraiser, Pancake Night, for Village Health Works. The fruit of our discussion: PROS> It was fun! We liked the toppings. SUGGESTIONS> Louder music, reduce cost & size of pancakes ($1), stay until the bars close at 2am, hold it on a Friday or Saturday because there are more people out, No bacon, hot chocolate, we need more promotion, all you can eat option?
- PIN APPRECIATION: Every Monday in front of the EMU. Wearing a pin? You get a free cookie. We’ll have sign-ups for pin appreciation each Thursday meeting before Monday’s tabling. Contact Vanessa Williams vwillia1@uoregon.edu if you want to table, but can’t make it to a meeting!
