- Dr. Heaman works at the UO Health Center.
- Discussed top causes of death in low, middle, and higher-income countries according to the World Health Organization.
- Major indicators of a country’s health: geographic region, culture, and income/economy.
- Discussed importance of prevention through access to education and basic needs. Introduced the problem of treating one generation while investing in educating another generation in prevention.
- Introduced two philosophies: harm reduction and zero tolerance.
- Focused on WHO goals for women: reduce smoking, reduce domestic violence, reduce gender-bias, reduce sexual abuse, reduce the number of marriages below age 18. Health is affected by underlying issues such as those above.

Rather than having a general meeting this week, we decided to attend the showing of “What are we doing here?” at the Mills International Center as part of International Week.
“What are we doing here?”
- A documentary about poverty in the continent of Africa. The film discusses how effective relief aid organizations have been and what the real needs of Africans are. We were fortunate enough to have one of the brothers in this film introduce the film and stay after to discuss and answer questions.

- The Poverty Project will be presenting “1.4 billion reasons” on Thursday, April 7th at 6:30pm in Lillis 182.
- Service Saturday will take place on April 16th at 11am-2pm in the LLC Performance Hall. The project will involve making baby fleece blankets for the Relief Nursery and putting together hygiene kits for the Eugene Mission.
