Puliter Prize winner expected to address UO

Pulitzer Prize winning author Tracy Kidder is expected to speak at the EMU Ballroom early winter term after the ASUO Senate approved $6,500 toward a speaking fee and advertisement for the event.
Requested by the Clark Honors College Student Association, the amount was debated because funds were said to include advertisements in newspapers such as the Emerald, Eugene Weekly and the Register-Guard.

AIDS conference sheds light on epidemic in Africa
Students will have chance to participate in various workshops, discussions
Sub-Saharan Africa may be home to only 10 percent of the world’s population, but it accounts for more than 60 percent of the world’s HIV/AIDS epidemic. Despite international support to eliminate the disease, 22 million adults and children living in sub-Saharan Africa are infected with HIV/AIDS.

The FACE AIDS chapter at the Unversity of Virginia recently launched a “How Do You Wear Your Pin?” Campaign, moving a step beyond Oregon’s fall campaign, taking dozens of photos with a variety of subjects.

-implements group mission
Associate Director
-runs general/board meetings
-takes leadership role in conference and event planning
-coordinates educational component of general meetings

This winter, during the two weeks leading up to World AIDS Day (December 1st), we’re launching a campaign based on that simple question. We are doing a photography series, with different campus community members wearing a pin, coupled with a short explanation of how they “wear their pin.” Whether it be working at Volunteers in Medicine, reading to middle schoolers, or donating money to critical medical research, we all give back, or “wear our pin,” in different ways.
With our partnership with FACE AIDS, a national student organization to fight AIDS in Africa, the Rwandan-made awareness pins are sold for $5 each. Through…
